Here are a few of the people that make our church community special:
Judy Jones has served as Family Ministries Coordinator at Salem since 2001 and during that time has worn many hats including Bible study leader, high school Sunday school teacher, Stephen Ministries leader, and visitor to the hospitalized and shut-ins. Judy and her husband, Rich, have been members of Salem since 1976 and consider this church and church family an extremely important part of their lives. They both enjoy spending all the time they can with their two daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren, Ava and Luke.
Sandy Berl was born and raised in Red Lion, PA. At age 13, she moved to Reisterstown, MD, where she met her husband Carroll. They have been married for 35 years and now live in Baltimore with their 31 year-old daughter, Jodi and a 2 year-old rescue cat named Freddy. She has been a member of Idlewylde United Methodist Church since 1978, where she is Financial Secretary, sings alto in the choir and coordinates the flea markets, bazaars and many church missions. She loves music and crafts, especially crocheting prayer shawls.
Erich Boin - Custodian
Erich Boin has served as Salem’s faithful custodian since 2011 and during that time has perfected the art of the powerful vacuum. He can be found at the church night and day. Erich, along with his daughter, Erica and granddaughters Sophia and Jasmine, have been members of Salem since 1970.
Alyson Shirk- Music Director
Alyson Shirk is Director of Music for the Bryn Mawr School. She earned her doctorate in vocal performance from Shenandoah Conservatory in 2009. Alyson also serves as the Artistic Director of the American Kodaly Children's Chorus. Her Bryn Mawr and Children's Chorus choirs have performed at such prestigious venues as the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the U.S. State Department, The Blair House and most recently in Budapest and Kecskemet, Hungary. When Alyson isn't teaching, she can be found behind the piano musically directing community theater productions and occasionally performing. Alyson lives in Towson with her two teenage daughters.
Bandit - Office Greeter
Bandit comes to Salem after working with the DeMent family for two years. During that time, she has taught them to not take life so seriously, to enjoy snacks, and to always be excited when company arrives. Bandit has a welcome mat at her home that states: "Warning, dog can't hold her licker!"
